Privacy
Last updated 29 September 2026
This covers devonels.com and apply.devonels.com, including the boyfriend application. They're run by me, Devon Els. I collect as little as I can, I don't sell or share it, and there are no ads.
Visits
I count visits with Darkside, an analytics tool run by Farside on its own hosting. It records the page you visited, the site that linked you here, your type of device, browser and operating system, a country worked out from your time zone, which links and buttons you click, and how far you get through the application form (not what you type). It doesn't use cookies, doesn't store your IP address and can't recognise you from one day to the next.
To stop it counting your visits, open any page with ?darkside=off at the end of the address.
The boyfriend application
If you send an application, I keep:
- your answers to the questions, including your name and how to contact you
- the photo you upload or the Instagram handle you give
- when you sent it, and its status, like whether I've read it and how it's going
Only I can see it, in a signed-in admin area. Your photo is never public. I use it all only to read your application and get back to you. I get an email saying a new application came in, but your answers and photo stay on the site.
Applications are deleted automatically six months after they're sent, photo included.
Cookies
The site sets one short-lived cookie that the application form and the admin area need to work securely. It isn't used to track you. The pages load their fonts from Google Fonts, which, like any site you load something from, sees your IP address.
Where it's kept
Everything is stored with my web hosting provider. Like most websites, the hosting also keeps standard server logs (including IP addresses) for a short time to keep things running and secure.
Your rights
You can ask to see what I have about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted sooner. Email me and I'll sort it out. If you're in South Africa and not happy with how I've handled it, you can complain to the Information Regulator.
